Environmental Policy

 

  
  • At Edwards Cheshire we think it’s our responsibility to know exactly where our timber originates. If suppliers can’t prove where it comes from or that it has not been sourced in accordance with our strict environmental and ethical policy, we simply do not do business with them. We scrupulously check every wood we trade in to make sure it is not on the IUCN Red Data List (a list of tree species under threat of extinction). Plus, where ever possible we try and source independently verified FSC-certified of PEFC-certified flooring which we supply under our FSC certificate TT-COC-2154 and PEFC certificate BMT-PEFC-0229.
  • Some people in the trade are cynical – “it may be FSC but how can you prove it?”
  • An independent certification body goes to where the wood is grown and checks the forest management against strict environmental, social and economic criteria-and they keep visiting and checking-at least every year.
  • If the forest management passes, then they sell the wood as FSC-certified. Every stage from the forest until we sell to you the FSC-certified flooring is independently checked by a certification body.

Edwards Cheshire Co Ltd is an FSC certified company under certificate number TT-COC – 002154 and PEFC certified under certificate PEFC/16-37-58.

Edwards Cheshire's approach to wood flooring has been based on responsible sourcing for the last five years and we have now decided that the time is right to reinforce this approach with a 100% money back guarantee for our 2009 range of wood floors.

We will guarantee the following:

  • Goods stated as being FSC certified are FSC certified- and the documentation provided will properly demonstrate that your floor is FSC certified.
  • Goods stated as being PEFC certified are PEFC certified – and the documentation provided will properly demonstrate that your floor is PEFC certified.
  • We will not state, misleadingly, that FSC certified material has been used to produce a floor unless that product is sold as FSC certified.
  • Goods stated as being true European Oak - from forests with the EU are European Oak from forests within the EU.
  • Goods stated as being from a particular country of origin - ie Canadian Maple, Australian Jarrah etc are from that country.
  • We will not supply you with CITES listed floors. In the rare case that we do supply cities listed wood floors these will be FSC certified.
  • We will not supply Wenge, Merbau, Teak, Santos Mahogany, Iroko, Mogno, Danta, Ebony, Zebrano, Palisander, Imbuia Muteye unless the delivery notes and invoices relating to your specific delivery explicitly state that your floor is FSC certified.
  • We will guarantee that none of our Oaks either stated as European or otherwise originate from either China or its neighboring forests in Eastern Russia.

If any of our claims are proven to be  not true we will give you 100% of your money back. We hope that this guarantee will be adopted as being standard within our industry in the near future.
